very important for English schoolchildren to learn a foreign language. I also think the government was quite right to stop it being compulsory at GCSE level. By the time a student is choosing their GCSEs, aged 14, those extra two years arelanguage? It seems to me that 90% of school leavers can't even read and write English fluently.
